Guidelines for a More Relaxed Work Life
by Bill OÕMara PhD
Now more than ever, more is asked
of us in our profession.
Life speeds up, responsibilities grow, and we can get distracted
quickly. In my work as a
consultant to leaders two interesting questions often come up relating to
Emotional Intelligence - How can I get better at relationship management and
self management? How can I balance
this and all I have to do? Certainly,
priorities are shifting, and leaders must work on these areas or face derailment,
stress, and ineffectiveness. Both
require we deeply learn to relax.
The tips below offer suggestions on exactly how to do this. The benefit is as we learn to enter a
place of relaxation, of ease, we can feel more whole and self managed, our relationship
blossom (for people will start to feel more at ease with us), and paradoxically
we are much more effective.
This is in part because we engage the universal law of attractionÉ that
good things happen to those who stay in joy and ease. Work hard yes, but relaxed... relaxed concentration is the
way.
Here are some tips to help you flow more in joy
through your busy days. Remember,
when you feel stressed say, ÒThanks for sharing... I am here to serve .. I am moving forward ... nothing can stop me"
1)
Get Centered. Pray, meditate and bring in Spirit every
morning and throughout your day – so you stay in your higher self and
assist your lower self.
Tension is only felt when in lower self. Observe your tensions and use them as
messages from which you can learn about yourself.
2)
Love yourself no matter what. Let the tasks of your day be a vehicle
in which to be more conscious and nurturing of self – our ultimate path
in life. And
paradoxically it is the loving person that is a magnet for success!
3)
SERVE by doing what is asked of you.
Be creatively alive in doing so and release all else. In the highest sense
the most successful people love themselves and serve others. ÒThe only way to get what you want out
of life is to help a lot of others get what they wantÓ. Practice living the Law of Attraction:
Focus, Give your best, master your craft, open your heart, touch a life, Smile,
Love, be the best. Begin to
really see how your work helps others. See how what you do touches
people. Imagine, releasing any
doubt, someone really benefiting from what you do. If you are folding laundry, really feel how much pleasure
some one will feel as they sleep in fresh, clean, loved sheets. If you are writing a memo or manual,
imagine how well informed and helped the recipient is going to feel, even if
you never hear from them.
ÒIt is never the act, but the
consciousness of the act --- all things done with love bless thousands of
people.Ó
4)
Concentrate on drawing on your self-esteem. Very
Important! Draw on your
sense of identity as a God being – as a unique loving being on this
earth, rather than on what you do or your job title. See what you do as simply the perfect expression of God
moving through you beautifully this day.
You are here to bless others.
5)
Remain Physically active by
stopping to stretch and do yoga AND BREATHING through the day. Get plenty of fresh air. The body needs air and sunlight every
90 minutes. Take lots of short breaks. Make every part of your day simple, flowing, and
harmonious, conserving and building energy rather than dissipating it. Slow down.
6)
Become
Conscious of your EXPECTATIONS: If you see them clearly, the demand for one result or
another can be released and they wonÕt prevent you from fully accepting and
enjoying what is here and now in your divine process of creation. Focus more on the
moment-to-moment process of what you are doing and less on the end result, which will take care of itself perfectly if you
allow your self to be fully efficient in the moment. Detach and focus on giving with relaxed concentration.
7)
Let time be your friend, not a
constant opponent with which you are fighting. Get lost in the momentÉ. See how
joyous you can make itÉ. Drop the pressures and affirm
it is all unfolding perfectly and getting done on time. Drop the anxiety and remember you
are safe É you are perfect no mater what.
What more can you do than your best with a heart that serves? If someone thinks otherwise, that is
their problem not yours! There is
a difference between serving and people pleasing (trying to get approval). Serve and release.
8)
See all tasks of equal value in
terms of your growth as a whole God person. How well you do something, and with what care, love and
attention, is of MORE importance and value than the task completion itself.
9)
Develop other parts of your life outside of
work. Create
hobbies and interests (gardens) that nourish you and touch
others and may become possible income streams or your full time career
in time. Allow your self to be a 3 garden person:
your main job (corporate manager), your main project developing your key
life purpose (music, art, massage), favorite hobby (acting). Inch by inch any thing is a cinchÉ Keep it simple and enjoy your time on
vacationland planet earth!
Best to you,
Bill
